Summer at Tahquamenon

Lake Michigan Sunset

This was taken at a little park somewhere between TC and Petoskey. Lake Michigan always has the most gorgeous sunsets.

Beach pictures!

Seeing the light!

This is Whitefish Point Light. The picture was taken at sunset from the beach.

The Trilliums are Out!

The Trilliums are in bloom, and have been for some weeks now. The long cold spring has been a bummer, until we get to the length of bloom time. Extra weeks of my favorite flower are almost worth it!

Spring has sprung!

The snow has finally melted and the new buds are opening. I've seen plenty of robins and migrating ducks. Accordingly, I'm ready to open up the cabin for the year.

Soon it will be time for the Trillums and Morels! The northern spring-time at its best!

Bodi Lake Update

When I was looking around for land to buy last fall, I had gone up to see some lots at Bodi Lake. If you do any camping in the UP you may have seen this pretty little lake. Unfortunately, the area drought had hit Bodi hard, and there seemed to be very little water left in the lake bed! What had been hundreds of acres of excellent fishing and sandy bottomed swimming, was reduced to two mudholes and lots of newly sprouted grass.

I was really shocked at the changes. While several UP lakes are low and Lake Superior was also at very low levels last fall, it looked like Bodi was drying up.

I plan to try and get up there and check it out this spring. I'll post my update here and let you know how the campground looks. If you have any eastern UP campgrounds you'd like reports on, let me know. I tend to do lots of toodling when I'm home and will be happy to pop over and check them out for you!

In the Beginning....

My love affair with the U. P. began years ago, but even now, crossing the bridge and heading west on US 2, the view of the lake still puts a lump in my throat. Many happy family vacations were spent here when my children were young. Now that the nest is empty and I'm on my own, it still gives me a rush.

I amped up the voltage last fall when I finally bought my very own cabin. For years I had rented, and then bought a little house in town, but a home in town is hardly the same as a cabin, especially one with real logs and a knotty pine interior! It was love at first sight.

The funny part was, I wasn't supposed to be buying a cabin. I was only looking at land. The prices had dropped last fall and I wanted to see if it was possible to pick up a small parcel to build on at a later date. The realtor showed me several lots, then recommended I see a little "turnkey" property. As we stepped out of the car, I couldn't help but notice that the ground was blue with berries! They covered every square inch of property.

I was later teased for buying the cabin due to its resemblance to a blueberry plantation. I plead the fifth! I do love blueberries!

The cabin comes with access to thousands of acres of State land and plenty of hiking opportunities (and blueberries!).

Feel free to share your cabin love stories. Leave me a note in the Comments section.
